HUNTING ACCESS PROGRAM
HAP is a DNR run program that has been bringing Michigan landowners, farmers and hunters together for over 40 years. Since 2010, conservation districts have been successful as local coordinators for the program and in 2014, HAP became available to Northeast and Northwest Michigan.
Farmers and other landowners agree to have their land available to hunters at certain times or throughout the entire hunting season in exchange for an annual payment from the DNR. Payment is based on individual lease agreements.
Property owners can meet on site with their local HAP coordinator who will perform a land assessment and negotiate a lease agreement based on acreage, habitat quality, and the hunting parameters preferred by the landowner. They will also furnish your property with signage, list your property on the DNR website, and keep track of the mandatory sign-in book for visiting hunters.
